At Oogachaga, our staff and volunteers believe in supporting a variety of social causes: refugees, homeless youths, rescued animals, migrant workers, people with disabilities.
You probably do so too, and we are glad to hear that!
We are also raising funds for ourselves, so that we can continue running our Centre which supports many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer and gender-diverse (LGBTQ+) individuals, couples and families in Singapore.
During the festive season, we usually see an increase in the number of incoming hotline calls, emails, and Whatsapp chats, as well as requests for face-to-face counselling sessions. This is because it’s difficult for many LGBTQ+ persons to get through this time of year.
From January to November this year, we had 484 face-to-face counselling sessions. This compares to only 416 sessions we had for the whole of last year.
Many seek support for loneliness, sexuality and identity issues, coming out difficulties, mental health concerns, and dealing with challenging relationships in their lives.
In October, when we launched our fundraising campaign our primary purpose was to ensure that our much-needed services would be accessible to the many who use them.
Happy New Year message from our Executive Director
