While the American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association and Chinese Psychiatric Association all do not recognise homosexuality as a mental illness, same sex attracted people are still susceptible to other mental and emotional obstacles.
An important factor which many times lead to other breakdowns in a person’s wellbeing is homophobia. Phobia toward LGBT is often a result of one being misinformed about LGBT people. Often this is translated into prejudice, discrimination and stigma.
Homophobia can manifest in both non-LGBT, as well as LGBT people. A LGBT person, especially one who is struggling with his/her sexual orientation or gender identity, can sometimes adopt a homophobic attitude towards themselves and other LGBT. Many times this can lead to other difficulties like Anxiety and Stress .
