Face to Face Counselling

One of Oogachaga’s key services is the counselling service, provided by a team of staff members and volunteers professionally trained in counselling, social work and psychology.

The counselling service was launched in 2000, and is offered to all regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status and educational standing. Because relationships are an important part of our lives, our counsellors work with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals, couples and families, including family members of persons who identify as LGBTQ.

We acknowledge that everyone may experience various challenges in their lives, and we recognise that those who use our counselling service may have unique concerns that are better addressed in a confidential, safe environment with an LGBTQ-friendly counsellor here.

Our professional counsellors

Oogachaga’s team of professional counsellors come from diverse backgrounds, all of whom adopt an LGBTQ-friendly approach that is guided by gay-affirmative practice (Crisp, 2006).

Currently, our team includes female counsellors who have experience working with youths and adults in different settings, as well as experience of working with women in relationships.

Our male counsellors have worked with youths and adults, as individual, couples and family members of LGBTQ persons, in a range of settings on different issues.

Collectively, our counsellors have experience working with clients on the following issues:

·     Sexual orientation and gender identity

·     Sexuality, sexual behaviour and sexual health

·     Relationships with family members and partners

·     Mental and psychological health

·     Personal issues, including coping with school, National Service and employment

·     Other issues, including partner violence, self-harm and suicide

To find out more about our counselling service, please email counselling@oogachaga.com or phone 6224 9373, Mondays to Fridays (excluding public holidays) from 11am to 6pm.

In order to offset our operating costs, we charge a small fee for each counselling session. If you are a student, on low income, or are in some financial need, please let us know when you get in touch with us. We would like to make our counselling services affordable and accessible to anyone who needs it.
