Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Joint Report 2021
In collaboration with Pink Dot
In June 2015, Oogachaga and Pink Dot SG upon invitation from Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) participated in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) by the United Nations Human Rights Council on the state of human rights in Singapore, by making a joint stakeholder submission for the first time.
The UPR is a United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council mechanism aimed at improving the human rights situation on the ground of each of the 193 UN Member States. Under this unique mechanism, each Member State undergoes a review of its human rights record every 5 years.
Non-governmental organisations can participate in the process by submitting stakeholder reports to the UN ahead of the UPR. This is not the first time Oogachaga and Pink Dot SG participated in the UPR. In June 2015, on invitation from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oogachaga and Pink Dot SG jointly submitted a stakeholder report on LGBTQ issues to the Human Rights Council for Singapore’s 2nd UPR cycle.
In October 2020, Oogachaga and Pink Dot SG again collaborated and made a joint submission, which you can download in PDF below. This is leading up to the United Nations Human Rights Council 3rd cycle UPR of Singapore at its 38th session in May 2021. You can watch a full recording of it here on United Nations Web TV.
